What Do You Say When Your Prospect Asks “Is this Network Marketing?” Does that question freak you out? It does for many people whether they get “Is this network marketing”? “Is this multi-level”? Or the dreaded one “Is this a pyramid?” What the heck do you say to that? And how do you respond? Well there’s two parts really…
Number One: We Can Avoid this Objection All Together. How do you do that? Stop talking like you’re in network marketing! LOL! Often times people will say certain things that almost provoke the prospect to ask you this question. Watch the words that you’re using when you are talking to the prospect… If you say things like “I got involved in a company.” Or “I’m doing this thing.” Doesn’t that sound “MLMish”?
The Opportunity Buzz Word. Also when you say the word “opportunity” that is a HUGE Buzz word for Network Marketers. What do you say instead? Well how about something like this… “I came across something, and it looks like we can help some people, and make some money. And I thought about you. Love to share more about it with you, when can we get together?” Or “I came across something and I think it would be a huge blessing for you”. Or “I’m working on a side project and it’s shaping up to be quite lucrative, I have always thought you had a great mind for business. Can we meet up and I’d like to share more about it with you.” Do you see how that is different then “I came across this great opportunity and I am really excited about it, I want you to take a look”. It’s a way different approach! Watch for the MLM buzzwords and MLM Lingo you should steer clear of this objection altogether.
But What Happens if You Do Get this Objection? What then? Well usually when someone asks something like that, they’ve had some type of MLM experience before. So why not find out what it is? Just ask them “what do you know about network marketing?” or “why do you ask that question?” and they will usually tell you! What’s interesting is when you get them talking, they will not only tell you they’re bad experience. But they will also tell you “Why it didn’t work for them”.
Why Didn’t It Work for Them? If they don’t share this up front… just simply ask “why do you think it didn’t work for you”? Oftentimes it will say things like “I didn’t have the time… I didn’t have the upline support… I wasn’t sure what I was doing”. Things like that. Then based on what they share, you can kind of determine if perhaps that wouldn’t even be an issue for them right now. You can ask “Hey is timing better for you now in your life?…” “Do you think if you really would have committed yourself things would have turned out different? Do you think that if you had a good support system and someone taking by the hand, that things might have turned out the way you had hoped for?” Questions like that will lead you down the path to where your prospect may be open for what you have! Then you can go ahead, and move forward! And if for some reason timing still isn’t right, well at least you know, and you can put them on your list for the future.
