How Do You Answer “What do You do?”
Especially when you’re building your business part-time? Have you ever been at a party, church, or some other social setting and someone asks you “what do you do?” And then you’re not quite sure how to respond… You feel like a deer in the headlights because you are not 100% with how to answer… You do work during the day, but you also have your network marketing business that you’re wanting to get off the ground.
What the Heck Do You Say?
Well we’re going to talk all about it. Because this is actually a really common situation. And if we want to be effective if we want to be influential with the people that we know we better darn well have an answer!
There are several different types of settings…Some maybe while you’re out and about doing Lifestyle Prospecting. Others may be social settings like church, a social club, or something else where you might see the same people again.
How You Respond Depends on 2 Factors…
#1. You
#2. Your Setting
You have to think about how you want to come off to that person especially if you’re going to see them over and over again.
If you’re just getting started in your business and you do something else during the day, perhaps you are a nurse, hairdresser or teacher. I probably would say what I do during the day. If you have a little time under your belt with your Network Marketing Business and you feel pretty confident and have some good posture when it comes to what to say. Then I would probably mention your MLM Biz.
If you tell them your day job profession, you can always come back and say
“I am a nurse during the day, but I have a side business that I’m working on, and it’s fixing to retire me from that.”
Or you can always come back and approach them in the future and say…
“I got something that I’m working on and it’s shaping up to be Big! I really think a lot of you and I know you’ve done some great things a business. I would love to corroborate with you, because it looks like something that can help some people and we can make some money. Let’s talk!”
What about “Lifestyle Prospecting”?
Well that’s super easy! You always share what you do for your Network Marketing Business. Part of how we Lifestyle Prospect is by getting the prospect to ask us what we do, to open the door so that we can talk about our network marketing business. A great way to do that is by asking them what they do. Then oftentimes they will ask you back…
Now sometimes when they ask you what you do they are very inquisitive and ask a lot of questions. Other times not so much. Either way is okay. But at least it opens up the door for you to talk. Now usually when I am prospecting somebody I have a little bit of dialogue conversation then in the last minute or two before I’m getting ready to leave I will drop a compliment to them.
Hey you seem like a super sharp person…
Right now I’m expanding my business and you look like someone that might be fun to work with…
I’m just curious, do you happen to keep your options open, for other ways of making money outside of what you do?
Once you as a question they’re only going to give you one of three answers. They will say Yes, No, or What is it? Then I usually take my phone out. I open it to the section where I can add a contact and say “Hey listen I have to run. But I love to chat more about this with you. What’s the best contact number to catch up with you at?
I hand them my phone and they put in their contact info. Then I’m out the door! I will always mention that we can touch base later on to chat more.
So that’s it! Out of all these things that we talked about, one thing you want to remember is Posture!
Posture is the most important thing! It’s not so much what you say, it’s how you say it. Do you come across strong, and confident. Or are you fidgeting, unsure, and looking at the ground. You want to plan in advance how you want to come across. SHOW UP BIG when you’re out meeting people! They will think very highly of you even if you don’t say much, just by your posture that you come across with! Look them in the eye, be confident in what you say, and that person’s belief towards you will be through the roof!
