Simple Time Management Tips
We are in a day and age where people are overwhelmed. They have so much on their plate. They have a to-do list a mile long, and quite frankly don’t feel like they have enough hours in the day to get it all done. We all know, we can’t really manage time. Time is going to continue to keep on ticking no matter what we do, but we can manage our use of the time. I’m going to be sharing with you my top five time management techniques, to help you get the best results!
My TOP 5 Time Management Tips
TIP #1: CHUNKING First of all, we will get into chunking… What is chunking? So you have this list of to-dos. You’ve probably got it on a yellow notepad & it’s a mile long. You’ve got all these things, and you’re thinking, “Where do I start?” It can be a little bit overwhelming. Chunking is a concept that basically allows you to compartmentalize things in your mind, so you can start knocking things out systematically. And allows you to focus on what you really need to do that’s going to give you the best results. For example, instead of having 30 “To Do’s” you identify and break them up into 4-6 Categories. So out of 30 Things lets say 14 Relate to your Business: prospecting, book keeping, working with your team, promoting events, ect. Another 6 Are connected to your family: time with the kids, time with your spouse, seeing your parents, ect. 5 Items are about you and your personal life: working out, doing personal development, learning new skills, ect. And 5 have to do with your home or work space: clean up, organized, dishes, trash, shopping, ect. Start viewing your “To do’s” more in 4-6 categories rather that a list of 30 things and in doing so you will increase your time management skills
TIP #2: “WHAT” The next thing, and what’s so very important is, “What do we want?” Do we have a goal of promoting up this month in our business? Do we have an income goal, a health & fitness goal, or maybe weight loss goal? What are the things that we really want? If we can get really clear on what it is that we want, then we can help make sure that we’re getting to the desired result. So many times, people are busy being busy. They’re not actually being productive.
TIP #3: “WHY” Why do you want that thing? If you want promote up to a Higher Leadership level in your Company. Or if you achieve a certain amount of income,. Why do you want it? Is it going to provide security for you? It’s going to make you feel like you can sleep better at night. Give you peace of mind? Why do you want these things? If we can get clear on the “what” and we can get clear on the “why”– then the rest becomes very, very simple.
TIP #4: THE PARETO PRINCIPLE – AKA the 80/20 RULE The next thing is the Pareto Principle which is also know today as the 80/20 Rule! So now that you have all of this stuff on your list chunked it into 4-6 categories. What we need to do next is identify the 20% of the things on the list, that will give you 80% of your results! The 80/20 Principle applies in almost anything you do in life. What are the 20% of things on your list, that are going to give you the Biggest RESULTS? You may find there are some items on your list that really just need to be crossed off. It is going to allow you some freedom to release some things and not do them. It’s also going to allow you the opportunity to combine a couple of items or even delegate them out.
TIP #5: MASSIVE ACTION The last thing is Massive Action! We’ve taken our gazillion things on our to-do list. We’ve chunked them into a couple of key categories. We’ve identified the top 20% that’s going to give us 80% of the results. Now it’s time to get into gear! Focus on systematically knocking out the TOP 20% & enjoy the Fantastic results it brings! Enjoy the freedom to release the “busy work” and take the extra time and give it to what really matters most!
