I recently had the honor and privilege of developing a product with John Maxwell. The entire thing was based on the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth. This was a version for Network Marketers! One of the things that was talked about was The Law of the Mirror.
The Law of the Mirror is something that plays out in our everyday lives all the time! Way more often than we even consider. If you’ve never heard of it, here’s what it is…
When You Look in the Mirror What Do You See? How do you see yourself? Do you see yourself as a leader? …As a mover and a shaker our your profession?… Do you see yourself as somebody that is valuable and is able to add value to others? Or, on the other hand do you see something negative? Do you see someone that has always been told no? Do you see someone that has been pushed down by their peers and maybe even their family. Do you see someone that is used to only making 40k or $50k a year, and feel that getting paid that much is actually a great deal! What do you see?
It All Comes Down to Our Self-Worth, and Self-Esteem. What’s funny is although this is little talked about, it is the core for everything that we do! It basically creates the operating system inside of our brain. Do you have the guts to walk across the room and talk to that Prospect. Or get on the phone and connect with somebody new? What determines whether you go forward or not? What determines what you think is possible? It all comes down to how you see yourself. This is the law of the mirror…
Zig Ziglar says– “You cannot Consistently perform in a way that is Inconsistent with how you see yourself.”
I find this to be very true. Often times we want to attract amazing leaders to our team. The people that knock it out of the park! And on a scale from 1 to 10 they are the tens! The only problem is this. If we don’t see ourselves as a 10 yet it will be very difficult to attract the tens into our team.
We must first raise the value of how we see our self, because usually our own self-worth and self-
confidence is reflected in our actions, and words… Basically other people pick up on it. Here’s a few important things to remember…
You Determine Your Self-Worth… Not Other People. Remember that first and foremost. If you discount who you are and put a little value on yourself, surely the world will not raise the price! So if you’re at a place in your life where this is a struggle for you. Start focusing on things that will help increase your confidence. Pick up your Bible and see what God has to say about you. You were made in His likeness and His Image! He has a plan and a purpose for your life! There are things that you were put on this Earth, to do only you can do! You must see this value in yourself! You must know that you are a Great Masterpiece! A work of art! An amazing and unique individual, with creative thoughts, ideas, and style. When you change the way you see yourself, the world will change the way it’s sees you too!
