If I could just pick one key thing to help increase sales it would be this… Learn to Stir up the Emotions. Have you ever heard the phrase “Facts Tell, Stories Sell”? Well its true! A lot of time people get so concerned in focusing on all the facts and figures that they forget to include the most powerful part: the emotions! People buy on emotion and back it up with logic. If you remember that, it will help you get more people emotionally involved in what you are doing.
How to Share Your Story with Others
One of the best ways to do this is by sharing your testimony. Now how you share your testimony is extremely important. Have you ever been at a home party or group event, and someone gets up to share their testimony but they take forever? They seem to go on and on and you are wondering if they will ever get to the point? Sometimes people may have a very powerful story, but they load it up with a lot of things that are just unnecessary. They end up talking so much that it causes more people to say “so what” instead of “me too”. Do you know what I am talking about? How do we avoid that?
First and foremost your testimony should be 30-60 seconds if you are sharing it in a group setting. If you go much longer it may feel like you are stealing the show! Second, you want to put together your “power statements”. Think about the most powerful part of your story and focus on that.
A great way to do this is by using a simple 1-2-3 formula.
How to Share Your Testimony Effectively:
- Share Your Prior Experience- where were you at prior to getting started. You want to focus on things that really bring out what was going on at that time in your life and the challenges of the problem you were dealing with.
- Then What Changed- Then you got introduced to your product or company and you are going to shift gears in to the positive things you have seen.
- Now here are the Results- Share the time you have been on the product or building the business and the positive results you have seen in your life. Focus on the key benefits you have experienced and that you think your audience could relate to most.
Personal Testimony Example:
“Prior to getting started I had struggled with my weight for years! I had been on a dozen or more different programs and never could stick with anything. Then I got introduced to _______ Product! And it has been amazing! Now I just finished my first six weeks. I have already lost 32 lbs and I feel incredible! I know that this is something that will help me loose the rest of the weight and I feel great because It just fits in my lifestyle! I absolutely love it!”
Just keep your testimonies short, sweet and too the point. Also the more stories you can collect the better! The purpose of a testimony is to connect with your prospect at a greater level. If you have a friend that has had huge success in the business and they used to do construction, the next time you meet with someone in construction, that should be one of the first stories you share. Remember to look for the similarities. Look for the areas they have in common like: the same profession, similar challenges, or similar family background. Maybe they are a parent with 5 kids and you have a success story of someone with a similar situation.
The more connections you can make with your prospect. The more they can relate and say “ hey, this sounds just like me!”
