How Do You Feel About Prospecting? When you think about network marketing prospecting…. And talking to your friends about your business… do you get a pit that begins to form in the bottom of your stomach?
…Rightly so. This is probably one of the most abused areas of our profession. People many times go about is all wrong. I know, I was one of the best at doing it!
I Did It Wrong Too! Years ago when I first got started I began by hitting up all of my friends. Then after, things got weird. Some seemed to avoid me. Others I could tell felt uncomfortable around me. I did not like it! It has been quite a few years since my early days… And I have learned some things along the way that I want to share with you. Lets save you the pain and grief that can so easily be avoided…
There Are 3 Things to be Aware of when Prospecting Your Friends
- Don’t Pounce on Your Friends
- Don’t Bring it up Every Time You See or Talk to them
- Don’t Only Build Your List One Time
Lets talk about it…
#1 DON’T: Pounce on your friends. Seems obvious right? But so many people do it! They are new, super excited and the minute someone appears they have been wanting to talk to, they totally bull doze them with information!
They give them their product, brochures, magazines, post cards, sign up form and the list goes on! They come on WAY TO STRONG….
Then when they go to follow up their friend totally disappears… They are gone with the wind! Has this ever happened to you?
DO: So what we really want to do is… when you see a friend you know. You want to be low key. Mention that you would like to get together. Set the time and place then tell them you look forward to seeing them, that you have something you want to run by them. It’s Simple… Easy to do. And ZERO Rejection.
Now if you prefer to be a little more up front, mention you have a business project you are working on and you would like to run it by them.

#2 DON’T: Bring it up Every Time You See or Talk to them
This is important. If you do it will make them uncomfortable. They are not sure what to say or do. And you certainly won’t get any sign ups from this. They don’t even know how to sign up.
DO: Instead you want to set a time to meet with them. Get them in front of 100% of the info and then you can go from there. Now, if you ask to meet up to talk about business and they say “no”… you are done… Move on to the next person. If you persist, your success will become evident. Driving a new car… Extra family trips you WON… You know—all the good stuff! Then I promise you, they will bring it up. Many times they will boomerang back even though they might have said “no” to begin with.
#3 DON’T: Only build your list one time. You want to Grow Your List Daily!
DO: Constantly add new people to your list. If you want to get paid like a professional, this is what you need to do. Make an effort to meet new people. Whether by prospecting out and about, or meeting people online. You always, always, always need to be building your list!
