Have you ever seen someone that was so smooth, so suave, so in tune with others around them that they could virtually get anything they wanted? Then on the flip side there are those people who go at life like a bull in a china cabinet! They are offensive, abrasive, pushy… you know the ones I’m talking about! Let us not be one of them! Today we’re going to talk about how skill with people, will help you get what you want! Two skills that will help you win more in life!
Zig Ziglar has a saying… “If you help enough people get what they want…You can have everything you want!”
That’s really what it’s about. It’s a negotiation of what people want. If you want something and you know the right person that can help you get it. Help them get what they want first, and you will get what you want as well!
Show Appreciation & Give them a Feeling of Significance: Tony Robbins says there’s six basic human needs that we all have. One of them is a feeling of “Significance”. When you give someone appreciation, recognition, admiration, or feeling of being in control, you are helping them meet an innate human need.
Just think about what can you give the other person up front, so that they feel a warm sense of reciprocity back. If you do, they will very likely agree to your request…
Turning the “No” to a “Yes”! …OMG! I need Water! I recently had a situation where I needed some help with something. I was moving and needed the water turned on at the new house. The movers were coming. The plans were set. However I had missed the cut off time and now I was in a bind! Everything was in motion but you can’t move in to a house with no water! LOL!
When I spoke to the water company they told me the answer was “No”. They told me the policy was “No”. Then I asked the representative I was speaking with to pass me to a supervisor. The supervisor proceeded to tell me how the answer was again…“no”. But after a little bit of sweet talk, and helping the supervisor feel appreciated, recognized, and in control… I got what I want! Because I gave her what she wanted and needed… Because I showed genuine appreciation and respect for her authority… We both WON!
So How Can You Use This in Your Business? Think about the things that your prospect needs and help them get them! Show them how you may help them accomplish these things that a greater level by moving forward with you!
Remember to Communicate the Way they Want to Be Spoken With. You got to model and match. If they’re fun and outgoing, do your best to come across as fun and outgoing. If they the like facts and figures, the details and systems, try to tone it down and come across the way they do. Your goal is not to communicate the way that you want, or the way that you really are. You want to communicate in the way that best suits the needs of your prospect.
Give to Get: If you want to get what you want, you have to first give them what they want. So do your best to communicate in a way that best suits their needs and with what they’re the most comfortable with.
