Are You Making the BIG Prospecting Mistake? There is one huge mistake I see many people make over and over again when it comes to prospecting. So rather than having it be something that stumps you in your business… Let’s talk about it with you so that you can get more of the outcome that you’re looking for! So one of the biggest Faux Pas of prospecting, be it with social media, face to face, or on text message, is that many times Network Marketers will make it “all about them”, instead of “all about the prospect”.
Is It ALL ABOUT THEM? Have you ever seen someone that says “Hey I’m really, really excited about this, and I want you to take a look at it. Will you check this out and tell me what you think?”
BOOO— Let’s Never Do This! This way of asking makes it all about them… It has nothing to do with the benefit for the prospect!
Or sometimes the Networker will send a text or Facebook message asking them to watch a video or check something out. But they never did anything to make the prospect want to. — Are you with me?? Do you know what I am talking about? Have you ever gotten one of these messages?
Someone says “hey, will you do me a favor? Will you check out this link and tell me what you think?”
Why!? :/ Why Should we Check Out Their Stuff … And tell them what we think? There is no incentive for us to do that. So what should WE do instead? Here are two options for you!
Prospecting Plan #1: You Ask First For Permission. If you ask them first for permission then they are on board with you. It would sound like…
“Hey, I have something I’m pretty excited about, if I send you a short video would you watch it and give me your feed back?…” OR
“Hey, I found something I think would be right up your alley, if I sent you a video would you check it out?…” OR
“Hey, I came across something I really think you should check out, if I send you a short video will you watch it and tell me what you think?”
If you ask up front BEFORE sending anything to them AND they agree to watch it. Then you guys are all on the same page!
When someone sends over a text message or Facebook message that is basically requesting a favor. There is no incentive for the prospect to move forward with it. But this way has them agree up front and now they are just doing what they said they would.
Prospecting Plan #2: Find the Need = Offer the Solution. The other thing that you can do which is extremely effective, is to find the need, and share what you have as the problem solver. So the next time you’re talking with someone and they share that they are tight on funds… they have different things that they want to do like get a car, take a vacation, send their kids to private school, prepare for a huge wedding for their daughter… You have now found “the need”. And if you have a solution, then you are now the “problem solver”! Find the need and help them with the answer! But never, never, never, never, send unsolicited links to people asking them to do you a favor. It won’t go well! Just Don’t Do It. Take one of these two other approaches by asking them upfront or by finding the need and being the problem solver, and you will start seeing some fabulous results in your business!
